Cradle of Humankind

The Cradle of Humankind was declared a world heritage site in 1999.
It is a 47000-hectare area in Western Gauteng. It has around 40 different fossil sites, where some of the world's famous fossils have been discovered.
We offer a half day tour to any one of the following and a full day tour combining three of the following four attractions:

Cullinan Diamond Mine Diamonds

Enjoy a tour of the premier mine, opened in 1902, where the world’s largest diamond (3106 carats) was discovered in 1905. Premier mine has produced 226 gem diamonds over 100 carats and a quarter of the world's gems of 400 carats and more.
This is also the only outlet in the world where you can buy the Cullinan star cut diamond - a unique 66 facet cut. Each stone is laser inscribed - your assurance of the stones unique qualities.
On the surface tour visitors will see
  • the big hole,
  • the shaft and
  • the diamond room where a selection of uncut diamonds and replicas of world famous diamonds are displayed.

On the underground tour, tourists are fitted with safety shoes, clothes and equipment and then transported to the mines entrance via tram.
You then go 763m underground to view:
  • admin offices,
  • workshop,
  • rest area,
  • refuge bay,
  • loading and tipping of ore,
  • crushing of ore and
  • conveyor belt transporting of ore.
This is a physically taxing tour: only recommended for someone who is fit.

The De Wildt Cheetah Centre was established in 1971 and during the past 40 years has bred over 800 cheetah cubs. It has recently changed its name to The Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre as a tribute to the woman who devoted her life to the survival of the cheetah species.
Visit the rare and Endangered Species Captive Breeding Centre.
See amongst others,

The Rhino and Lion Park (1200 hectare) is home to over 700 head of game including

Pilanesberg National Park is set on 50 000 hectares of pristine unspoiled natural beauty, situated in the North West Province. It is located 150 km north west of Gauteng and 60 km north of Rustenburg.
The area is world famous geologically and its structure, termed the 'Pilanesberg National Park Alkaline Ring Complex' was formed by volcanic eruptions some 1 200 million years ago. Apart from its unique size, shape and rock types, the volcanic origin and resultant weathering of the extinct crater has resulted in a wide variety of landscapes and associated vegetation communities.
Pilanesberg National Park has the potential to carry a wider variety of game species than any other similar sized game reserve in Southern Africa.
It is home to the Big Five -
  • lion,
  • leopard,
  • buffalo,
  • rhino and
  • elephant.

Lesedi (the place of light) is a multi-cultural African village.
The microcosm of tribal life comprises five traditional homesteads.
You'll experience
  • the Zulus with their beehive huts,
  • the colourful geometric beadwork and art of the Ndebele,
  • the conical hats and blankets of the Basotho,
  • the white blankets of the Xhosa and
  • the rhythmic drums and whistles of the Pedi.
Visitors are then treated to a Pan African buffet in the Nyama Choma Restaurant with delicacies from North, East and South Africa.

We require a minimum of two people to conduct a scheduled tour. This tour has a fixed itinerary and departure times, and other people may join this tour.
 
PRIVATE TOUR
We require a minimum of two people to conduct a private tour. Departure times and the tour itinerary are flexible and other people will not join this tour.
 
SINGLE TOUR
We are able to conduct a tour for one person, but this will be charged at the single rate. Departure times are fixed and we reserve the right to add people to this tour, in which case the tour price will revert back to the scheduled tour price.
